Getting There

Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour is located at Fleet Steps, The Domain (next to the Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney), Mrs Macquaries Road, Sydney. This area is located just to the south of Mrs Macquaries Chair. From the Art Gallery of NSW, proceed north along Art Gallery Road and Mrs Macquaries Road.

There are many accessible options for travelling to the Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour venue. Patrons are asked to consider and plan their transport choice prior to their visit. Access to the venue via the Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney is only possible prior to sundown, which is around 6.00pm, after which time the gates are shut. 

Site Opening Hours

The Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour venue will open at 5pm. You will need a valid ticket to obtain entry to the site.


By Car

If you are planning on travelling by car, please be advised that Art Gallery Road, leading into the venue, is likely to experience traffic congestion on nights of the performance. There will be very limited metered parking available close to the site and the drop off/pick up availability may have a waiting time attached. We highly recommend arranging an alternative drop off/meeting point, or using public transport.

The Domain Car Park is the closest undercover car park available. For patrons arriving at the Domain Car Park from 5.00pm, there is a $10 flat rate charged and closing hours will be extended until 1:00am. All details of times, rates and priority booking at the Domain Car Park can be viewed at www.domaincarpark.com.au. Please note parking is subject to availability.

There are approximately 200 metered parking spaces on Mrs Macquaries Road, although this is likely to be a highly congested area post the event. Alternative metered parking is available on Hospital Road and Macquarie Street, which are also within walking distance of the venue. They are charged at the following rates: 8.00am to 8.00pm $7.00/hr or 8.00pm to 8.00am $3.00/hr. Meters accept coins, Visa, Mastercard and mobile phone payments.


By Shuttle Bus

A shuttle bus will be available for patrons who park in the Domain Car Park, which will loop to the venue entrance on Mrs Macquaries Road. The service will commence at 5.00pm until 7.30pm and recommence at 10.30pm. Check the Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour closer to the event for any updates on the shuttle bus service.


By Public Transport

The nearest train stations are Martin Place, St James and Circular Quay, which are all in walking distance of the venue. The City Sightseeing Bus also includes the Royal Botanic Gardens on its route, the last bus leaves from Circular Quay at 6pm. The 200 Bus (Chatswood to Bondi) stops in Macquarie Street and the 441 (Balmain via QVB Building) leaves York Street, Town Hall on weekdays, 10am to 5 pm, stopping outside the Art Gallery of NSW. Take a train or bus to Circular Quay and then transfer to the site by water taxi for $10 from the Circular Quay West wharf in front of the MCA. 

If travelling by Ferry to Circular Quay, it is approximately a 20 minute walk across the Domain to the venue. Patrons have the option of walking along the Royal Botanic Garden, Farm Cove path from the Sydney Opera House before 6pm when the Royal Botanic Garden closes their gate or alternatively taking a water taxi.

By Taxi

Mrs Macquaries Road will be accessible for patrons travelling by taxi and taxis will be called at the conclusion of the performance to the entrance of the venue on Mrs Macquaries Road. Please note, wait times for taxis can be long depending on availability of taxis on duty. We recommend you stay for a drink at the Northern Terrace to avoid the queues.

 

By Water Taxi

The Andrew (Boy) Charlton Pool wharf in Woolloomooloo Bay will be available for arrivals and departures for small vessels; however, mooring at the wharf is not permitted. Aussie Water Taxis will run a shuttle service from 4.30pm until 7.30pm picking up from four different wharfs clearly sign posted: Circular Quay East wharf, Circular Quay West wharf directly in front of the MCA, the Camel-Toe wharf next to The Park Hyatt and Man O' War Jetty on the eastern side of the Sydney Opera House near the entrance to the Royal Botanic Garden. It will recommence at 10:15pm until 11pm departing from the The Andrew (Boy) Charlton Pool wharf and dropping off at the Man O'War Jetty and Circular Quay.
